Description

Common Name: Perennial Cornflower 'Amethyst Dream'

Latin Name: Centaurea montana 'Amethyst Dream'

Plant Type: Perennial

Description: A clump-forming herbaceous perennial with attractive silvery-grey green foliage and striking thistle-like amethyst-purple flowers. Blooming from late spring into summer, the shaggy flowers provide long-lasting colour and are highly attractive to pollinators.

Garden Impact: Ideal for cottage gardens, wildlife borders and mixed perennial planting, where its vivid flowers create a naturalistic splash of colour. Its compact, spreading habit adds texture and works particularly well towards the front of sunny borders.

Light & Water Requirements: Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil, watering moderately once established.

Size (Fully Grown): Approx. 50cm high × 60–70cm spread.

Pet Friendliness: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, although ingestion of any plant material may cause mild stomach upset.
