Latin Name: Calluna vulgaris (for summer-flowering heather) / Erica spp. (for winter-flowering heather)

Description: A low-growing, evergreen shrub with fine, needle-like foliage that forms dense mats of greenery. Depending on the variety, it produces masses of tiny bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink, purple, white, or red, either in summer or winter, providing long-lasting colour and nectar for pollinators.

Garden Impact: Perfect for ground cover, rockeries, and borders, where it creates a soft, textured carpet of colour. Ideal for wildlife-friendly gardens and works beautifully in drifts for a naturalistic effect.

Light & Water Requirements: Prefers full sun and well-drained, acidic soil; drought tolerant once established but benefits from occasional watering in prolonged dry periods.

Size (Fully Grown): Approximately 20–50cm tall with a spread of 30–60cm, depending on variety.
