Description

Common name: Paddle Plant ‘Bambino’

Latin name: Kalanchoe thyrsiflora ‘Bambino’

Best position in the home: Prefers a bright spot with plenty of light, including some direct sun. A sunny windowsill is ideal. The more light it receives, the stronger the red edging on the leaves will become.

Water requirements: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially in winter. As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves and is very drought-tolerant. Does not require high humidity.

Home impact: With its thick, rounded leaves and striking red edges, this plant adds a bold, architectural look to any space. Perfect for modern interiors or sunny windowsills. Generally considered toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.

Potential height at full growth: Typically grows to around 20–30cm in height indoors, with a compact, upright habit.

How to look after it: Place in a bright, sunny spot and use a free-draining cactus or succulent compost. Water only when the soil is completely dry and ensure good drainage. Feed lightly during spring and summer with a cactus fertiliser. Avoid overwatering, as this is the most common cause of problems. Repot occasionally as it grows.

Beginner friendliness 5/5

Practically Thrives on Neglect! An easy-care succulent that’s perfect for beginners or anyone who prefers a low-maintenance plant. It’s very forgiving, as long as it isn’t overwatered.

Leaf colour can intensify with more sunlight, developing beautiful red tones. Like many Kalanchoes, it may produce offsets over time, allowing you to propagate new plants.
